2014 Hail to the Chefs Celebrated Local Culinary Excellence
Dr. Jeffrey Hord Honored with Heart of Hudson Award
More than 200 guests enjoyed a picture perfect evening at the 9th annual Hail to the Chefs gala at Lake Forest Country Club on Friday, May 30. Hudson restaurants and chefs participated in the fundraiser which benefitted Akron Children’s Hospital School Health Services. Nine Hudson restaurants artfully presented dishes from their restaurants in a relaxed, social setting. Guests danced to live music from local favorite ContraBand.
The annual event ignites community excitement for Taste of Hudson, presented by Akron Children’s Hospital, which will take place August 31 and September 1.
Co-Chairs Carrie Gynn and Stephanie Lallement presented an event built around Hudson’s exceptional culinary talent, with the help of a dedicated volunteer committee. Serving as Honorary Co-Chairs were Kathy Chadwick-Koke, vice president of marketing of Laurel Lake Retirement Community, and Shawn Lyden, executive vice president of Akron Children’s Hospital.
“We appreciate the support of the restaurant community for this event,” said Taste of Hudson Executive Director Andy Malitz. “We’re also getting ready to announce the full line-up of Taste of Hudson restaurants, so make sure you are following Taste of Hudson on Facebook and Twitter to stay current on all details on our 10th Anniversary year.”
Media personality Joe Cronauer, along with Taste of Hudson Executive Director Andy Malitz, presented the Heart of Hudson Award to Dr. Jeffrey Hord, director of childhood cancers and blood disorders at Akron Children’s Hospital. This newly-established award honors individuals who are exemplary Hudson residents who work at Akron Children’s Hospital. The annual award will be part of future Hail to the Chefs events.
A Hudson resident for many years, Dr. Hord is active in the community and is proud to call Hudson his home, along with his wife Patricia and their three children.
“I’ve been blessed in so many ways,” said Dr. Hord. “I enjoy good health and have a loving, supportive family. I work in a profession where I feel like I make a difference in the lives of the children and families for whom I care. I work for Akron Children’s Hospital and the great staff there, with whom I share many values, including treating others as we would want to be treated. And I live in the wonderful community of Hudson, which is a great place to raise a family with excellent public and private schools, an active church at St. Mary’s, wonderful parks and so many family-oriented activities. Because of all the benefits my family and I have received, I feel compelled to give back to the community and to those in need.”
Taste of Hudson and Hail to the Chefs are produced by Taste of Hudson, Inc., a non-profit corporation organized by volunteers to promote the downtown Hudson restaurant and retail district and to provide funding for numerous charitable organizations, including Akron Children’s Hospital.
